Netherlands Visa Guide for Pakistani Applicants

The Netherlands is a member of the Schengen Area, so Pakistani citizens travelling there for tourism, family visits, or short business trips need a Schengen (Type C) visa. This is a single, EU-regulated visa that also allows travel across the other 26 Schengen countries during its validity, for a combined stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

If the Netherlands is your main destination, or the country where you will spend the most time, you should apply through the Netherlands’ embassy, consulate, or authorised visa application centre in Pakistan.

• Single-Entry Visa — for one entry into the Schengen Area within the visa’s validity
• Multiple-Entry Visa — allows repeated entries, often issued to applicants with a positive travel history
• Airport Transit Visa (Type A) — only required in specific transit circumstances, not for general travel through the Netherlands

The type and validity granted depends on your travel history, purpose, and the assessing consular officer’s judgment — a first-time applicant will often be issued a visa closely matching the dates of their planned trip.

• Valid passport, issued within the last 10 years, with at least 2 blank pages and validity of at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area
• Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
• Two to three recent passport-size photographs meeting ICAO/Schengen photo specifications
• Bank statements for the last 6 months showing consistent balance and activity
• NADRA Family Registration Certificate
• Proof of employment, business ownership, or income (employment letter, NTN/business documents, salary slips)
• Travel insurance valid across the Schengen Area with a minimum coverage of €30,000
• Confirmed flight itinerary and hotel bookings
• Evidence of ties to Pakistan (property, family, employment, business)
• Invitation letter, if visiting family or friends in the Netherlands

Consular officers assess Schengen visa applicants on whether they:

• Have a genuine purpose for a short, temporary visit
• Can demonstrate sufficient, consistent financial means for the trip
• Hold valid travel insurance meeting the Schengen minimum coverage requirement
• Have strong ties to Pakistan supporting their intent to return
• Present consistent, complete, and verifiable documentation

Large, unexplained deposits shortly before applying are a common red flag — funds should show a stable history rather than appearing just before submission.

The Schengen visa is governed by the EU Visa Code, so core rules (fee, minimum insurance, document categories) are harmonized across all 27 Schengen states, including the Netherlands. Since 2026 has also brought the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) into effect at Schengen borders — an automated system recording biometric entry and exit data — this changes the border-crossing experience but not the visa application process itself. Processing can slow considerably during peak season (April to August) and around major holidays. We recommend applying at least 6 to 8 weeks before your intended travel date, and never booking non-refundable travel before your visa is issued.

Most Schengen countries process Pakistani applications through VFS Global or TLScontact visa application centres in Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, though not every country operates a centre in all three cities. What is the current Schengen visa fee?
The EU-wide fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6-11; children under 6 are exempt. A separate, non-refundable VFS Global or TLScontact service charge also applies. We confirm the exact current amounts before you apply.

Can I apply directly if the Netherlands isn’t my only stop in Europe?
Yes — apply at the embassy or centre of the country where you’ll spend the most time, or your first point of entry if your time is evenly split.

What if my visa is refused?
Your refusal letter will state the reason. We review it and help you strengthen your documentation before reapplying.

• All visa and service fees are non-refundable, even if your application is refused.
• Fingerprints (biometrics) are valid for 59 months, so repeat applicants may be exempt from providing them again.
• Schengen visa rejection rates for Pakistani applicants have historically been high, so a complete, honest, well-organised file matters more than for many other destinations.
